In addition to the MEMS sensors, most drone gimbals use accelerometers and gyroscopes. These sensors measure the acceleration of your drone, its angular rate or turn, and can detect the direction in which your drone is tilted or pointing. A computer inside the gimbal can then compensate for these signals and ensure that your drone remains level.

Most drone gimbals come pre-calibrated so that you can get up and flying quickly. However, they do need to be calibrated again after each battery change.

If you are having problems with overload warnings, a tilted horizon or other errors, then it's probably time to recalibrate your gimbal. You can usually find detailed instructions online for how to do this for your specific drone and gimbal. It's also possible to do this during flight, though this is not recommended and may result in a loss of stability for your drone. It is best to perform a full calibration on a flat surface.
